Meet Mrs. Pennsylvania America 2016-April Walker-Taylor

April Walker-Taylor is Mrs. Pennsylvania America 2016. She was awarded the title on June 18, 2016 in Philadelphia, PA. Her platform is Autism Awareness and she will tout the platform to Mrs. America in August as she competes for the National title amongst 50 states plus the District of Columbia. 

April is a Licensed Behavior Specialist in the state of Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Business Management and went on to receive a Masters degree in Human Services at Lincoln University. She is a member of Pi Gamma Mu, the oldest and preeminent honor society in the social sciences. 

April is also a published author of the book, "Princess on the Inside," a life skills book for girl’s ages 4-12 years old. She even co-authored the book with her daughter!

April lived most of her adult life in Montgomery County, but also has strong community ties to Philadelphia County. She comes from a “helping” family; her parents own a Christian Day School in Philadelphia County, which has been in existence for over 35 years, and several boarding homes to provide housing and care for the elderly, veterans, homeless, and persons with mental health diagnosis.

April is married to Rufus Taylor, a Vice Principal at Mastery Charter School. They have four children. As a family, they own and operate Taylor Properties, LLC providing housing for Temple University students. 

April’s hobbies include: interior decorating, playing basketball, soccer coaching, and spending time with her family.
